A southern power plant had a 2600 psi (380°F) boiler feed water leak.
The leak was on a cover plate on the "second point heater" of a unit, and was located at three of the flange bolts. The gap was 0.422" wide and 1.25" deep.
Team technicians drilled the face of the flange between the bolts at the leak area, and wrapped wire in the flange gap. A cable was installed against the wire using a cable-tensioning device.
Team sealant was injected 180° from the leak and allowed to set for an hour.
After an hour, additional sealant was pumped slowly around the flange to allow the cured sealant to move and bridge the leak.
The pumping continued until the leak sealed completely.
